1963 Tasman Tyre Treads opens for business in Greymouth. It was started by the Retail Motor Trade as mines were closing in the area and they were looking to keep people and jobs in the Greymouth district. Tasman Tyre Treads Greymouth begins retreading tyres for the motor trade .
1972 Tasman Tyre Treads Greymouth starts selling tubes and new car tyres but is only involved with the wholesale market.
1975 Tasman Tyre Treads changes the focus of the business and opens up to the public.
1978 Westport branch opens and Tasman Tyre Treads become Firestone Dealers.
2000 The Richmond branch of Tasman Tyre Treads opens on Gladstone Road.
2002 Motueka branch of Tasman Tyre Treads begins trading in June.
2002 Oamaru branch of Tasman Tyre Treads opens in July.
2011 Tasman Tyre Treads Richmond moves to the new McGlashen Ave site.
2012 The Mosgiel branch begins trading in July.
2012 The new state-of-the-art store is opened in Carmen Road Hornby.
2013 Tasman Tyre Treads 8th branch and newest store opens up on Jones Road, Rolleston.
2014 Tasman Tyres Oamaru moves to its new store on Weaver street, offering more efficiency, exposure and a modern air conditioned building with a coffee machine and plenty of parking.
2015, Tasman cements its position in Rolleston by purchasing land in Jones Road.
Tasman Tyre Treads has proven to be a successful business venture. The company started with 17,500 old pounds and shares now given back to shareholders are to the value of over $280,000. The company is run by a total of 5 directors, one of whom Roy Munn was an original manager from 1963. Tasman Tyre Treads employs approx 40 staff throughout the South Island. The company continues to grow with the focus on providing great workmanship and friendly service through all its branch’s.
